Privacy Policy
BRT Dictionary
Helping people learn and preserve the mother tongue.

Last updated: 25 November 2025

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how the BRT Dictionary mobile application (“the App”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information.

The App is a language-learning tool designed to help users explore and preserve a specific mother tongue. We are strongly committed to your privacy and have built the App to collect as little data as possible.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

The App is deliberately privacy-friendly and does not collect or transmit any personal data. Specifically:

  • No analytics or tracking (no Google Analytics, Firebase, Amplitude, etc.)
  • No crash reporting that sends data to third parties
  • No push notifications
  • No user accounts, sign-ups, or login system
  • No collection of names, email addresses, phone numbers, or contacts
  • No access to your camera, microphone, photos, location, or any other sensors
  • No cookies, device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprinting

3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The App saves the following data only on your device to enhance your experience:

  • Bookmarks and favorite words
  • Recent search history
  • Personal notes you create
  • Display preferences (theme, font size, etc.)

This data is never uploaded or shared. Uninstalling the App completely removes it.

4. Server-Side Data & Logs

The App connects to our backend only to:

  • Fetch dictionary entries and translations
  • Download pre-recorded audio pronunciation files
  • Load app configuration and updates

Our servers:

  • Do not create user profiles or accounts
  • Do not store or log your IP address long-term
  • Do not link any request to an individual identity

Basic anonymized server logs (e.g., error messages) are retained for a maximum of 30 days solely for security and troubleshooting, then automatically deleted.

5. Audio & Media

The App plays pre-recorded audio files to help with pronunciation.

  • We never record your voice
  • We never access your microphone
  • All audio files are hosted on secure third-party cloud storage (e.g., Backblaze B2, AWS S3, or similar) and delivered via CDN

6. Third-Party Services

We use reputable third-party cloud providers only to host and deliver static content (dictionary data and audio files). No personal data is ever sent to these providers because the App collects none.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App is suitable for users of all ages, including children. Since we collect no personal information whatsoever, we fully comply with COPPA and similar children’s privacy laws.

8. Your Rights & Controls

  • Clear bookmarks, history, and notes directly in the App settings
  • Uninstall the App at any time to delete all local data
  • Contact us (see below) for any privacy concern

9. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures (encryption in transit, access controls, regular audits) to protect the content we host. Because no personal data is processed, the risk to your privacy is effectively zero.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy. The new version will be posted here with an updated “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review it periodically.

11. Contact Us
